What areas do you service?
We primarily photograph weddings in San Diego County & Winnipeg, Manitoba, but also travel for destination wedding services worldwide. There are no boundaries!
I bet that's a popular question! The world of communication is great these days, right? Well not only will you sit down with my Southern California Studio Manager, Melisa, in San Marcos, CA...I will be there face to face with you via video conference. I am available for a consultation to anyone, anywhere via Skype! I am also in the San Diego area several times a year, so you just might be able to meet with me in human form as well. :)

Who we are?
Honey Stetson – Photographer is an all female wedding photography business originated in San Diego County, California. Honey Stetson and her Southern California Studio Manager, Melisa Cogdell, graduated together with Associate in Arts Degrees in Photography in 2002. Both have been running successful individual businesses in the professional photography industry specializing in different genres of photography and have combined to create a strong wedding photography business that is growing across the continent today.
What we do?
We provide a wedding photography service that is natural, friendly, feminine, and reputable.
In addition to wedding photography, we also offer boudoir shoots, engagement sessions, family, senior, & children sessions. With Melisa’s strong background in fine art maternity and newborn photography we are able to provide excellent services for our post-wedding clients as well.
Honey has several years of experience photographing gourmet food for San Diego Home/Garden Lifestyles magazine and loves any opportunity to photograph the fine details, colors, and textures of food!
Why we do it?
Personally speaking, I, Honey, do it, for a few special reasons. First of all, my grandfather whom I never had the pleasure of meeting owned a photo-finishing & camera supply store in Chicago, IL during my father’s childhood. Photography is something that is a part of my father’s family history, yet I am the only family member who has pursued a professional career as an actual photographer. I grew up with lots of photos being taken...even of food on our kitchen chopping block when my Dad was inspired...obviously where I got my interest in food photography! Like many photographers today, I received a cheap plastic camera (I wish I still had it) as a child and began taking my own images. I photographed a lot of squirrels with that thing!
While taking photography classes in high school and entering my college education, I was always under the impression (based on public opinion) that photography can only be a hobby and that you can’t make a career out of it. Someone in my past once encouraged me to go on a tour of an art school and to follow my heart and do what I love to make my lifelong income, rather than set it aside as a hobby. Thanks to their encouragement, I changed my major from liberal studies (to become an elementary school teacher) to photography!
How did we get started?
Great question! Well, I honestly never thought I’d be a “wedding” photographer. I was a bridesmaid in a friend’s wedding in Salzburg, Austria when I gained my inspiration. While sitting on the window ledge of a moving taxi, in my dress, with a manual Minolta SRT 101 FILM camera, I captured a very natural image of the bride and groom looking back and laughing from a horse-drawn carriage that had people asking…”Why don’t you be a wedding photographer?” It turned out that my non-traditional images and style were different and desired. Referrals started…
But you see, you can’t just jump in to photographing the most important day of someone’s life without some hands-on, intern-like experience…if you do… your clients either reallllly trust you, you’re doing it free of charge, they don’t know a thing about you, or you’ve been dishonest. During my last years of college I hit the pavement (and the internet) and found photographers that I could assist for. I assisted for next-to-nothing or free for wedding photographers and also had the pleasure of being a loyal assistant to a fabulous food photographer, Birdie Carter, in San Diego.
What makes us different than other photographers in our area?
Honey Stetson - Photographer is an all female business. I believe that the lighthearted spirit between myself and my female crew is what creates the comfortable, feminine, and refreshing experience that you receive when choosing our photography services for your wedding day!
Our products aren't too shabby either...you will only receive the best and will find a wide array of options to reflect your personal style in our albums, etc. You won't find yourself getting stuck with a low-grade album in a pre-set package here!
